Your Journey with Us

Tockington Manor School encompasses the Nursery for ages 2 to 4, the Pre-Prep (also known as Lower School) for ages 4 to 7 and the Prep (also known as Upper School) for ages 7 to 13. The whole School and Nursery is on one site and therefore all stages benefit from our wonderful facilities and grounds and there is a natural and easy flow from one stage to the next.

A seamless transition from Nursery into Reception

We welcome children from all nurseries and pre-schools and spend time getting to know them and their families before they join us to ensure a smooth start to school life.

Children who are due to start with us in Reception will be invited to join us for transition sessions during the summer term prior to their starting at the school.  With fewer than 20 children per class and a Teacher and Teaching Assistant on hand children settle very quickly here at Tockington Manor and we find that they are ready for a full school day as soon as they start.

Gaining Independence… Year 2 Into Year 3

Before they start, all children are offered a ‘taster day’ in their new class, to familiarise themselves with the school and get to know their classmates. Children who start mid-year or further up the school will be given a ‘buddy’ for their first week in school.  The buddy will be on hand to provide advice and guidance, from locating cutlery in the dining hall to finding the ICT Suite.  Their class teacher will also be keeping a close eye on them and will, of course, be available to talk with new parents as and when needed.

With small class sizes split roughly 50:50 boys and girls we find new children settle very quickly.

The Key Final Years… Year 6 Into Year 7

At TMS we believe in allowing children to be children for as long as possible, while equipping them with the attitude and aptitude for senior school and beyond. The final two years at Tockington are crucial in their academic, social and emotional development but also give them time to find the ‘right’ school for their next step. Our excellent relationships with senior schools in the region means we can secure deferred places, and even scholarships for Year 6 and 7 pupils when they are ready to move into Year 9.

Starting at a new school

We understand that starting at a new school can be a difficult time for some children, so we do our utmost to make sure it is as seamless a process as possible.  With small class sizes of only 20 children it really takes no time at all for new children to feel settled and happy in our school. During their first week, they will be given a ‘buddy’ who will help them to find everything they need, from cutlery in the dining hall to the ICT Suite to the cricket wicket, your child will quickly feel at home at Tockington Manor.

The Tockington Family

The journey continues after TMS

Most of our parents are so pleased with the care and education we provide during the Nursery stage that they are very keen to provide continuity for their child and stay with us, through the prep school, to the end of Year 8. Once they graduate, they become an Old Tockingtonian. We love to hear from all our OTs, keeping tabs with how well they are doing in their senior schools, in their universities or in their careers. We even receive visits from OTs who were here at the school’s very beginning!

‘LIFER’

Tockington Manor’s nickname for pupils who started in the Nursery at 2 years old and stayed with us right until their final prize giving at the end of Year 8. We are immensely proud to celebrate our Lifers every year at the annual Summer Prize Giving!
