Our Nursery

Welcome to Tockington Manor Nursery

Our Nursery is a very happy place where we focus on child-centred ‘learning through play’. Set in a beautifully converted barn within the school grounds, we offer carefully planned experiences and activities to ensure your child achieves their best while enjoying every moment with us.

Equipped with the finest early years learning resources, our spacious and bright rooms provide ample space for every child to comfortably engage in activities. Embracing the school’s outdoor philosophy, you will find us outside most days, enjoying a welly walk in our beautiful 28-acre grounds or discovering wildlife in our ponds and nature areas. Closer to the Nursery itself, we have easy access to a charming ‘cottage style’ garden where we tend to the flowers and vegetables, ride scooters and trikes, and chase bubbles with our friends – our days in the Nursery are filled with fun.

Our Nursery Team

With a team of dedicated, highly trained staff, Tockington Manor can offer an outstanding Nursery provision. Your child will have their own key person to provide attentive care and support, enabling them to flourish through ‘hands-on’ learning in a safe environment. Our Nursery Practitioners are specially trained to nurture and extend the development of every child. To see our full list of Nursery Staff, please click below.

How We Learn

We encourage each child to learn through ‘hands-on’ experience overseen by their key Nursery Practitioner. In our Nursery your child will learn the necessary skills to enable a confident transition to Reception whilst developing a love of learning that will last a lifetime.  The children are grouped by academic age into Woodpeckers 1 & 2 or Owls and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Opportunities To Explore And Grow

Being in the beautiful grounds of Tockington Manor School we are free to use all the school’s amazing facilities enabling activities that extend learning beyond the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  Throughout the year our qualified Swimming Instructors take the older children swimming in the school’s indoor heated pool, and we use the spacious school hall for music, dance and PE.  We set off on long ‘welly walks’ through the Arboretum learning about the changing seasons and collecting leaves whilst spotting the abundant wildlife. To the front of the Manor House, we have a pond that is home to many exciting mini beasts, frogs and our much-loved family of Moor Hens who usually have chicks at the end of April.

Healthy Eating

Your little ones are well-fed and watered throughout the day in the Nursery to ensure they have plenty of energy for fun activities and learning. At midday, when it’s time for lunch, a delicious and nutritious choice of freshly made hot or cold meals is provided in the main school dining hall, before the lower and upper school children dine. This provides a lovely opportunity for your child to enjoy the main school whilst it is quiet, and to practice the social and dexterous skills associated with dining from a young age. Some of the fruits and vegetables we eat are grown in our gardens on the school grounds.

Wraparound Care

Beyond providing the very best care for your child, we want to make life easier for parents. A full day at the nursery is from 08:30 – 16:30. This can be extended to include breakfast and/or tea (07:30 -18:00) to suit busy families. During the school holidays, the Nursery children can attend the Foundation Stage Holiday Club. For more information on sessions available, please visit our Admissions page.

Transition To Reception

Most of our parents are so pleased with the care and education we provide during the Nursery stage that they are very keen to provide continuity for their child and stay with us, through the Prep School, to the end of Year 8. Being on the same school grounds and integrated into many school traditions and events makes this transition into Reception much smoother.
