Our Location

Our location in the countryside near Bristol

Tockington Manor School and Nursery is ideally located just off the junction between the M4 and M5. Nestled in 28 acres of beautiful South Gloucestershire countryside about 20 minutes north of the vibrant city of Bristol, we are in the heart of Tockington, a village recorded in the Domesday book as having had 66 inhabitants (in combination with neighbouring Olveston) at the end of 11th century. Today, around 800 residents enjoy its rural charms!

Commuting to Tockington

The village sits in a valley between Almondsbury to the South and Thornbury to the North and we enjoy a country life within easy reach of the City of Bristol. Apart from our main bordering wards, we welcome children from many postcodes around us including Bradley Stoke, Chipping Sodbury, Wotton-Under-Edge, Yate, Winterbourne, Emersons Green, Badminton, Portishead, into Bristol itself and even across the estuary from Chepstow and other areas of Wales. Major employers including Airbus and Rolls Royce are just a few miles away.

Moving To The Countryside

Since 2020 many families have considered a move outside of the big cities. With our flexible wraparound care, we are able to help busy families who commute to London via fast rail link or into Bristol, Bath or Gloucester via excellent transport links. Children can enjoy an idyllic setting for their education, centred around embracing the outdoors, while parents rest easy that they will become part of the TMS Community, the Tockington family.

What’s In Tockington?

At Tockington’s centre is a triangular village green with a bus stop, pub and church – three staples of a quintessential English village! Locals can enjoy miles of footpaths and countryside walks including stone walls, farm animals, woodland and wildflowers. Although there are no shops in Tockington itself, it is in the Parish of neighbouring Olveston, which is just a short walk away. There are several farm shops in the area and a large shopping mall at nearby Cribbs Causeway.

‘The grounds are exceptional and one of the reasons we chose here. To grow up in the care of such wonderful staff, exploring the beautiful surroundings and being able to make the most of the opportunities that Tockington provides – I really do feel so lucky that we are able to do this for our daughter.’

Visit us

The School is very much part of the village, having been here as an educational establishment since 1947, although the building was constructed in the 1700s (read more about our history here). The best way to appreciate the allure of Tockington, and our contribution to it, is to spend some time here. Whilst we do have Open Days during the year, our doors are always open for private tours and a chat with the Headmaster about your family’s journey as part of the Tockington family.

Apart from being close to the hub of Bristol, we are also a short drive from the Cotswold Hills and many towns in neighbouring Gloucestershire. We were recently listed as one of the best independent day schools within a 30 minute drive from the county.
