Art, Design and Technology

Our art studio is a huge room, bathed in natural light with plentiful materials and resources.  Children are taught numerous methods and techniques, exploring and developing their own design ideas and creative talents through the study of architects and artists from many periods. Children from Year 1 to Year 8 are taught in the art studio by our specialist art and design teacher.

A breadth of different subjects and mediums

Children study the Ancients Greeks, Ancient Egyptians and early Aboriginals through to the Renaissance, Gothic, Impressionist eras, the POP Art movement, right up to the study of Street Art in the present day.

They develop their skills through drawing, painting, printing, 3-D work and collage. Sewing machines are also available to use in both Art and Design & Technology textiles projects.

The children are encouraged to use photography to explore their creative ideas and have the opportunity to enter a termly photography competition which displays an extremely high level of talent.

Design and Technology is taught formally up to the end of Year 5 with fun and engaging projects such as puppets, pop-up books, making torches and building bridges.

Advanced ICT Provision Across the School

We are proud to consider ourselves a leader when it comes to Computing, with some of what we are doing being used as an example in other schools. Walking around Tockington Manor School, you will notice how well-embedded Computing is throughout the curriculum.

Pupils in Years 5 – 8 all have access to their own Chromebooks as part of our 1-1 device programme.
In Pre-Prep, a bank of Chromebooks means children can get used to using a mouse and even have a go at coding from as young as five.
In our Music Suite, students use iMacs for mixing and recording music during their lessons or extracurricular activities and this prepares them well for a seamless transition to the GCSE syllabus in senior school.
TMS boasts a state-of-the-art Computing Suite, with Windows PCs, virtual reality (VR) headsets and a green screen.
From Reception through to Year 8, every pupil has the opportunity to engage with technology to enhance and develop their learning experience
