Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care at Tockington Manor School is entwined in everything we say and everything we do here, every day.

Our vision is to provide a caring, safe and happy environment where children from 2 – 13 years develop their individual abilities and enjoy an effective education tailored to their needs and interests.  We offer a family-based education for children that embraces integrity, Christian values and encourages children from different backgrounds to respect the needs of others and, in doing so, understand their own needs more clearly.

Our mission is to develop a lifelong love of learning and to encourage our children to be the best that they can be.

Wellbeing Support

A child’s emotional wellbeing is key to their academic success and as such our systems are designed to ensure that every student feels supported and cared for. We offer settling in Parents’ Evenings to allow caregivers to discuss how their child is adjusting, encouraging a smooth transition into the school. Our small classes foster close relationships between teachers and pupils and, to ensure no child is overlooked, form teachers meet regularly with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss each child’s pastoral development. We have a dedicated Learning Support area, The Nest, for students who need additional academic and pastoral support.

A Positive School Environment

Creating a positive and nurturing environment is central to our pastoral care. We encourage good behaviour, positivity and kindness through recognition and peer support. Our Good Intention and Politeness Award is celebrated every three weeks to reward pupils for exemplary behaviour. Smiley Face Monitors are appointed weekly in Lower School and they encourage younger pupils to spread happiness and positivity amongst their peers. We have excellent staff presence during breaks and play times and this not only allows us to observe and recognise positive behaviours but ensures a safe and secure environment for pupils during free time.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We understand that a strong relationship between school and home is vital for a child’s development. Regular and open communication with families is a core element of our pastoral approach. We have a buddy system for new pupils where they will be paired with existing students on Taster Days to help ease their transition. Parents are updated consistently on both their child’s academic progress and their pastoral wellbeing so they are fully informed of how their child is developing in the school environment.

Our Values

Our families, and those who visit us for Tours and Open Days, frequently comment on the warm, homely feel of the school and the excellent manners of our children. At Tockington Manor School, we pride ourselves on helping pupils live out our values every day. These are identified in the following principles:

  • Showing courtesy and respect,
  • Supporting the family community,
  • Developing the talent of each individual,
  • Encouraging best effort from every member,
  • Fostering a sense of enquiry and joy in the value of knowledge and learning,
  • Providing children with a sense of identity, ambition and confidence without arrogance.

Safeguarding your children at Tockington Manor School

Our safeguarding practices are robust and thorough, ensuring that all students feel secure and protected. We are committed to maintaining high standards in pastoral leadership and safeguarding.

Our excellent safeguarding structure is led by a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supported by four Deputy DSLs (DDSLs) during term time, and two during holidays, ensuring continuous safeguarding presence. The TMS Advisory Board's Pastoral Compliance Committee is chaired by an experienced ISI Inspector and we have a direct link to the CCEG's Safeguarding & Welfare Committee, ensuring that all safeguarding practices align with national standards.
