School Life

Making the Most of Every Moment
There is never a dull day at Tockington Manor School. In every part of our wonderful countryside environment, there is something going on – be that learning, competing, exploring or simply just whiling away the time making memories with friends. We aim to live up to our School mantra to make the most of every moment we are here. To make sure parents are not missing out on what their children are up to, we share frequent windows into their school life on social media and through our weekly newsletter, The Tracker.
Our Woodpeckers (2-3 year olds) and Owls (Rising 4s) enjoy their days in the Nursery, being looked after by our skilled Nursery Practitioners in the old, refurbished barn. With a combination of indoor activities including crafts, cooking and singing and outdoor explorations to learn about wildlife, weather and our environment we always have fun while we learn!
- Our Values are important and we learn these to start getting us ready for ‘big school’.
- Embracing the Outdoors is what we do at Tockington! You will find us outside come rain or shine.
- Sport is important for our physical development and we love taking part in Nursery Sports Day every Summer!
- Weekly lessons in the Russell Music and Performing Arts Suite expose us to the Performing Arts
- Art is one of our favourite pastimes and we enjoy taking our creations home at the end of the day
- We enjoy healthy snacks and meals every day, often in the main dining hall of the School

Our Pre-Prep classes are small and children between the ages of 4 and 7 enjoy our nurturing approach to their education. Dedicated teachers craft interesting lessons to keep us engaged and our school year is full of exciting activities to give us first-hand experiences of the things we are learning about, from making pizza to flower bashing and looking after our class elves!
- Our Values are important and we learn these early on so that we head into Prep, or Upper School, as kind, respectful children
- We love to put on our wellies and embrace the outdoors, especially in the Spring and early Summer when there are loads of new animals around our school habitats
- We learn the importance of Sport as an integral part of our school experience from Reception – we even have weekly swimming lessons!
- Learning how to express ourselves through the Performing Arts is an important part of our journey here, and really boosts our confidence
- There is so much more to Art than colouring in and we love to learn different ways to be creative
- Our parents really enjoy the fact that we can do a huge range 0f Extracurricular activities and clubs after school, as part of the school’s Wraparound Care and these give us even more to look forward to in our school day (and extra time with our friends!)
- Some of us can start out as fussy eaters when we join the school, but Tockinton’s approach to Healthy Eating encourages us to try new things

From the age of 7 or 8, when children are in Year 3, we concentrate on developing them into confident learners. As they progress through Prep, or Upper School, they start to follow their own timetable, moving between classrooms for lessons and gaining independence and responsibility. Their school life is rich with experiences, speakers, interactive learning and plenty of fresh air and exercise,
- The importance of Our Values comes through in everything we do in Tockington’s Upper School and the confident, respectful 13-year-olds we are when we leave is testament to that
- Forest School sessions are just one small part of how we embrace the outdoors, during our school hours. We are incredibly lucky to have so many outdoor spaces to explore and learn in.
- From Hockey to Cricket, Swimming to Football and Netball to Rugby, there are opportunities for all of us to find a sport we enjoy. We look forward to matches against nearby independent prep schools like us.
- Learning how to express ourselves through the Performing Arts is an important part of our journey here, and our specialist teachers know how to bring the best out of us
- With excellent facilities for Art, Design and Technology we really start finding our talents from Year 5 upwards when we are given more independence in our creations.
- As part of the School’s Wraparound Care you will often find many of us in a club or doing some sort of Extracurricular activity. It helps us expend some energy before we head to Prep – better known as homework
- When we sit in the dining hall for a healthy meal we enjoy looking at all the photographs of those who have come before us at Tockington and gone on to achieve great things!
