National Championship Status for Tockington!
19/09/2025Tockington Manor School finished the academic year on a high in the Summer Term as it achieved national championship status in both Touch Rugby and Swimming.

Reclaiming National Swimming Trophy
Our Year 5 and 6 boys competed at the IAPS Swimming Finals at the London Aquatics Centre in June. Swimming in the U11 Boys 8 x 25m Free Relay for Small Schools, they ran away with the title and we could not be prouder of them! There was a swell of pride in Monday morning assembly as Swimming Coach, Mr Perez, showed the video of the full race. TMS has won swimming championships at the IAPs event previously but this brings a trophy home after a six year hiatus.
The School had over 20 children competing at the event across a number of classes. The IAPS event is a highlight of the school swimming year and sees over 600 pupils competing from schools across the country. It is a huge achievement in itself to qualify for the finals, so a massive congratulations to both our champions and all those who competed on the day.
Mixed Team win Touch Rugby Nationals
In June, our Year 7 and 8 pupils put us in the nationwide spotlight once again at the National Touch Rugby Schools Championships, run by Try Sports and the England Touch Association. The 2025 Championships featured seven regional events leading to the exciting National Finals, held in Oxford. Competing in the Mixed Y7/8 category, our girls and boys won the South West leg in May to progress to the main competition at the end of June.
Arriving at the National Finals, the pupils were motivated after their strong performance at the regionals. Finishing top of their pool, they were touted as ‘ones to watch’ and played some fantastic touch all the way through to the final with St John’s, Leatherhead. Becoming champions in their first season playing Touch Rugby was an incredible achievement and we are immensely proud of them all.
September Update: Equestrian Success
During the summer holidays, we were also immensely proud to hear that Sophie G claimed the British Showjumping junior KBIS Club national title at 90cm and then later won the 1m class too! This is the first time since at least 2017 that the 90cm and 1m junior club championships have been won by the same person in the same year.
Sophie is trained by long time coach Jonathan Bowman as part of the JB Showjumping academy based in Wiltshire, and Nicky Florence as part of the British Showjumping Gloucestershire Academy. We can’t wait to see what Sophie and her pony Quickstep Dancer (known as JoJo) will achieve next – well done Sophie!
