Cunningham takes Double Cup win in Autumn House Matches

Celebrating Team Spirit and House Pride: Rugby and Hockey Competitions Wrap Up the Season

At Tockington Manor School, team spirit and camaraderie are at the heart of everything we do, and our Rugby and Hockey House Tournaments were no exception. These two thrilling events brought together pupils from Years 3 to 8 for an unforgettable showcase of skill, determination, and house pride. In our first House Tournament since we brought an end to Saturday School, our players and supporters displayed unwavering enthusiasm, despite the winter chill! A perfect way to conclude the season.

Rugby: A Day of Dramatic Twists and Triumphs

Our Rugby House Tournament marked the first time Years 3 and 4 joined forces with their older peers, adding a dynamic new dimension to the competition. Each tournament carried equal weight, and the results couldn’t have been closer. Every house had its moment of glory, with Alexander clinching victory in the U9 tournament, Cunningham triumphing in the U11s, and Churchill dominating the U13s.

By the end of the day, all three houses were tied on nine points, setting the stage for a nail-biting finale. The U13 boys faced a critical decision: determine the winner based on total tries or engage in a sudden-death place-kicking contest. Opting for the latter, the scene was set for an electrifying showdown as darkness descended.

In a head-to-head knockout between Cunningham and Alexander, Year 8’s Finley C became the hero of the hour, calmly slotting the winning penalty to secure the Cymric Cup for Cunningham. Jubilant cheers erupted from the crowd, a fitting end to an incredible day of rugby.

Hockey: A Showcase of Skill and Determination

For the first time, all girls from Years 3 to 8 competed in their House teams for the Taylers of Woodford Cup. The icy wind didn’t deter our determined players, who showcased exceptional teamwork and individual brilliance across three thrilling tournaments.

The Super Sevens tournament saw Years 3 and 4 combine forces, delivering an impressive 14 goals across three matches. Eleanor G led Cunningham to maximum points with five goals, while Tilly R’s four goals powered Churchill to strong performances.

In the Year 5 Quicksticks challenge, Churchill claimed maximum points, including a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cunningham and a commanding 6-0 win with goals shared by Bonnie B and Bella R.

The Championship tournament brought Years 6, 7, and 8 together on a larger pitch with optional goalies. Alexander’s consistent play earned them maximum points, with standout performances from Poppy R, who delivered three fabulous finishes in a 5-1 win over Churchill.
